Tasks

-Participates in regulatory and industry issues to support transmission line system Asset Management. Participates in committees and interfaces with external vendors, California ISO, Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) contacts regarding industry and western U.S. transmission grid issues, developments, trends, best practices, and contract negotiations. -Direct capital planning and budget development for transmission line maintenance, refurbishment, and replacement programs while ensuring compliance with NERC, FERC, and other regulatory requirements related to transmission asset performance and reliability and stakeholder engagement. -Evaluates asset failure and wire down events, using trend data analysis to improve strategic planning outcomes. -Ensures reliable and cost-effective operation of the Grid Control Center (GCC) and the Transmission Operations Center (TOC) which monitor the day-to-day real-time operations of the transmission system. Partners with senior leaders at the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) to maintain system reliability and address significant, long-term issues and strategies. -Interpreting and applying understanding of key financial indicators to make better business decisions. -Provides strategic planning and direction for emergency situations and asset component readiness. Ensures and ongoing state of readiness and effective plans for emergency response for significant situations and system-wide electrical events. Provides oversight for regular emergency preparedness/planning drills and exercises. -Develop department goals and ensure objectives are met. Implement efficiency and quality improvements. Monitors department performance and regularly presents status, issues, and recommendations to senior leadership including the VP and EVP levels. -Building teams with a strong identity that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals. -Planning and prioritizing work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals. -Building on necessary level of industry, company, and subject-matter expertise, including laws and regulations. -Develop plans and strategies for the Asset Management organization. Utilizes technology and multi-faceted teams and resources to build and maintain an organization to monitor transmission grid health. Ensures necessary asset data is gathered, analyzed, and summarized. Develops and presents recommendations to senior leadership regarding potential changes or improvements to the transmission grid. -Sponsoring and sustaining a high integrity speak-up corporate culture which prioritizes safety, compliance, and ethics. -Develops and maintains an integrated NERC compliance strategy that incorporates changes in the regulatory environment. Partners with the Regulatory Relations team to effectively represent PG&E’s position and interests regarding potential regulatory developments. Oversee the management of the training and compliance functions consistent with regulatory requirements and best practices. -Sees ahead to future possibilities and translates them into breakthrough strategies. -Building strong customer relationships and delivering hometown, customer-centric solutions. -Oversee the electric transmission line system to ensure the grid is operated in a safe and reliable manner according to regulatory requirements, while minimizing costs to customers and the company. Manages the transmission grid operations including system operations & dispatch, transmission outage planning, training, emergency management and asset performance. -Effectively builds formal and informal relationship networks inside and outside the organization. -Anticipates and balances the needs of multiple stakeholders. -Manage cross-functional teams including engineers, program managers, supervisors and managers, implement asset management systems and data analytics tools to optimize decision-making, collaborate with operations, engineering, and planning departments to align asset strategies with operational needs, and report asset health metrics, performance indicators, and investment recommendations to executive leadership. -Manages a significant department operational budget. Develops financial and staffing plans for each function of the department. -Develop and execute comprehensive asset management strategies for transmission line infrastructure including towers, conductors, insulators, and associated equipment and lead asset condition assessment programs utilizing inspection data, predictive analytics, and risk-based methodologies. -Creating and maintaining a speak up culture free of retaliation.

What You Bring

-Working knowledge of IBEW union contract and rules. -10 years of transmission system operations or engineering experience. -Maneuvering comfortably through complex policy, process, and people-related dynamics. -Knowledge of EMS and RTSCADA applications. -Strong change management knowledge and skills. -Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant work experience. -Financial and business acumen. -Broad knowledge of electric utility grid operations, particularly in transmission. Understanding theories, concepts, trends, best practices, and methods. -Strong communication and interpersonal skills with multiple levels of internal and external contacts. -Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. -Thorough understanding of the electric transmission regulatory environment. -Working knowledge of system operations, planning, forecasting and emergency response. -Influence and negotiation skills to effectively champion for department and company needs and interests with various stakeholders. -Strategic problem solving and decision-making skills. -Strong leadership skills: ability to motivate, direct, and engage a large group of employees. -Using various- communications that convey a clear understanding of the needs of different audiences. -Knowledge of electrical theory and power systems flow.
