About the Role
The position focuses on taking regulatory and non‑regulatory water samples, delivering sampling programmes, supporting investigations, and maintaining ISO 17025 accreditation for both potable and OSM sampling. The role also requires participation in out‑of‑hours standby rotas and weekend/evening sampling schedules. You will collaborate with internal teams—including the Laboratory, Water Quality and Process Scientists, Distribution and Production staff, the Quality Department, and Transport—as well as external partners such as DWI and NRW regulators, customers, Public Health Wales, and local councils. • Deal with customers and members of the public in a professional and knowledgeable manner. • Deliver the sampling and monitoring programmes. • Provide support in investigations to ensure compliance with regulations and protection of DCWW’s assets. • Understand the relevance of the Performance Scorecard to DCWW’s Business Plan and the implications of sample failures. • Provide specialist sampling response in the event of a terrorist attack. • Take regulatory and non‑regulatory samples in accordance with sampling procedures. • Support the business in attaining and maintaining ISO 17025 DWTS accreditation for potable sampling and ISO 17025 for OSM sampling. • Identify and escalate issues found at DCWW sites. • Work closely with Sampling Coordinators to ensure samples are taken within appropriate timescales. • Maintain and clean equipment used in sampling in line with ISO 17025 and regulatory requirements. • Participate in out‑of‑hours standby rotas. • Collect samples according to procedures. • Complete all documentation accurately and in compliance with ISO 17025. • Maintain and calibrate field test equipment in compliance with ISO 17025. • Identify any samples not taken and communicate this to Sampling Coordinators. • Check vehicles, organise servicing, and ensure they are road‑worthy at all times. • Participate in daily sampling debriefs to identify reasons for missed samples. • Attend meetings as necessary. • Participate in rota for weekend/evening sampling.

What You Bring
Candidates must hold a full driving licence, have GCSE C grades (or equivalent experience) in English, Mathematics and Science, and possess experience of water sampling or treatment processes and related legislation. Strong customer service skills, the ability to work safely and independently in the field, and adherence to procedures are essential. • Show knowledge and competency in taking both regulatory and non‑regulatory samples. • Be open to regular scrutiny and audit, both internally and externally.

This permanent role within the Legal and Regulation function at Dŵr Cymru (Welsh Water) is based in Cilfynydd, Newport, offering a salary between £27,089 and £30,779.
