About the Role

In this position the helper assists with identifying required tools and safety precautions, detecting equipment issues, disassembling, repairing or replacing parts, and performing tests to ensure smooth operation. Additional duties include preventative maintenance on a wide range of machinery, cleaning, lubricating, conducting basic diagnostics, using precision measuring equipment, and operating lathes, grinders and files. • Identify all tools needed for each task • Determine safety risks and required precautions • Detect minor to major problems with machines and equipment • Disassemble, repair, or replace machine components • Perform operational tests on machinery • Conduct preventative maintenance on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, steam valves, coils, radiators, water softeners, unit heaters, and pumps • Execute basic diagnostic tests and monitor performance • Use precision measuring instruments (rulers, calipers, micrometers) to verify dimensions • Operate engine lathes, grinders, and files • Unload, inspect, and position equipment with cranes, hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks • Employ rigging and hoisting devices (chokers, chain falls, come‑alongs) to move materials • Follow supervisor directions and complete other assigned duties • Maintain reliable transportation and availability for any workday • Commit to Zachry’s safety rules, values, and PPE requirements • Lift, carry, and move objects up to 50 lb; stand, walk, bend, squat, climb ladders, and work at heights

The role also involves handling heavy equipment using cranes, hoists, dollies, rollers, trucks and rigging devices such as chokers, chain falls and come‑alongs, while following supervisor directions and completing other assigned tasks. Required personal qualities include problem‑solving ability, manual dexterity, good reading comprehension, teamwork, independence, strong communication, and a commitment to safety. Physical requirements encompass extensive standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 50 lb, working at heights, and operating in all weather conditions while wearing required PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, ear plugs, respirators, high‑visibility vests, gloves and steel‑toed boots.
