About the Role
The position involves improving the accuracy and reliability of engineering‑related GIS data by digitizing paper records, ingesting them into the GIS, and augmenting the dataset with GPS readings collected outdoors on varying terrain and weather conditions. The technician will collaborate with ANC’s Engineering team to identify and correct missing or incomplete feature attributes. • Prioritize field data collection tasks with ANC engineering team • Collect and post‑process GPS data using ANC GPS equipment • Conduct physical inspections and surveys to verify geographic and land‑use data • Compile thematic data and generate reports • Digitize maps and enter descriptive information into GIS via standard procedures • Develop spatial data using GIS/GPS processes as needed for projects • Interpret CAD, PDF, as‑built, and blueprint engineering documents • Perform data entry and editing in ArcGIS Pro • Identify and correct location and attribute errors • Produce maps, data, and reports utilizing GIS/GPS technology • Deliver GIS datasets containing GPS readings to ANC

What You Bring
NV5 is recruiting a GIS Field Technician to work onsite at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. The role requires strong expertise in geospatial technologies, analytical methods, planning, critical thinking, and communication. The technician must thrive in a team environment and be self‑motivated. Candidates must be eligible for a DoD federal security clearance and provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Work is performed on‑site at the Arlington National Cemetery location. The role requires a bachelor’s degree in a related scientific or technical field, at least one year of experience with GIS, CADD, and ArcGIS Pro, and familiarity with GPS equipment such as Trimble Catalyst. Physical ability to walk the cemetery grounds and the capability to obtain a Secret security clearance are also required. • Bachelor’s degree in a physical/natural science, geography, engineering, planning, computer science or related field • Minimum 1 year experience with GIS and CADD data • Minimum 1 year experience using ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Desktop • Experience operating GPS equipment, preferably Trimble Catalyst • Strong technical understanding of GIS, CAD, and enterprise systems • Ability to walk cemetery grounds on varied terrain and weather • U.S. citizenship and eligibility for Secret security clearance • Preferred: advanced degree in Geography or GIS • Preferred: 2+ years GIS experience • Preferred: active Secret clearance • Preferred: familiarity with Army real‑property and space management
