Job Highlights
About the Role
• Support oversight of vegetation projects, including tree assessment, trimming, and related field work. • Conduct field inspections up to 95% of the time. • Ensure compliance with vegetation management program scope, contract terms, and PG&E standards across the service territory. • Participate in safety and tailboard meetings; exercise stop‑work authority when necessary. • Act as a customer relations representative on behalf of PG&E. • Coordinate on‑site between contractors, communities, agencies, first responders, and other PG&E workgroups and stakeholders. • Liaise with contractors to resolve obstacles, managing time and expenses to minimize rework and improve quality. • Maintain personnel focus on assigned jobs and proper equipment use; may approve scheduling and scope changes with management. • Promote public, contractor, and employee safety; perform and document safety observations and good catches. • Notify property owners/agencies of upcoming tree work and obtain required authorizations. • Perform work verification inspections of completed tree work. • Investigate and document tree‑related outages and attend outage meetings as requested. • Track, check, prescribe, and notify customers of non‑routine locations; close CC&B cases in the field. • Support emergency response by dispatching tree crews, field‑checking sites, and managing first‑responder agreements. • Ensure compliance with permits and environmental protection measures, including annual, encroachment, traffic control, railroad, Caltrans, and environmental release permits. • Complete electronic and paper documentation and reporting using electronic devices. • Maintain a valid Class C driver’s license and participate in the Employer Pull Notice Program with DMV. • Audit work performed by VM Inspectors to ensure compliance with applicable standards. • Assist with training and onboarding of VM Inspectors.

What You Bring
This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245 and is subject to collective bargaining. The Senior Vegetation Management Inspector‑GC oversees vegetation management work on electric distribution or transmission systems, including personnel, work quality, customer relations, public safety, permit compliance, and contractor performance. The role requires travel across the entire PG&E service territory and may involve relocation; applicants living within 50 miles of a headquarters receive preference. Applicants must pass prerequisite and secondary tests before applying and interview, and a post‑offer physical assessment (POPA) is required after an offer. • High School diploma or GED; required valid Class C driver’s license. • Five years of experience as a tree crew climber/foreman with two years line‑clearance certification, or as a Vegetation Management Inspector and Certified Arborist, or as a Registered Professional Forester, or as a Utility Inspector with vegetation management experience, or four years of honorable military service plus one year of vegetation inspection experience. • Bilingual in English and Spanish. • OSHA 30‑hour construction safety certification. • Certified Tree Safety Professional certification. • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. • Knowledge of forestry and utility vegetation management concepts, methods, and techniques. • Ability to work within a heavily regulated environment. • Strong influence, negotiation, tact, diplomacy, and political acumen to handle sensitive customer/public issues. • Good independent organizational, time management, prioritization, and planning skills.
