Senior Planner (Part Time)
Lead senior planner overseeing urban planning, zoning, CEQA, and stakeholder coordination.

About the Role
• Provides lead direction to professional, technical and office support staff; instructs staff in work procedures and reviews work performed; coordinates with other departments and agencies; meets community representatives to encourage cooperation or resolve problems • Performs professional land use and urban planning work, including current and advanced planning, and implements the City’s General Plan; reviews complex zoning and development applications • Conducts complex research and analysis; performs major planning and zoning studies; investigates planning problems considering legal and public‑relations aspects; presents findings • Prepares maps, graphs, charts, models and reports; plans, organizes and executes projects or surveys • Provides information and assistance to developers, property owners and the public on laws, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; performs field inspections; coordinates with City departments and outside agencies • Prepares staff reports, resolutions, letters, zoning ordinance changes and environmental review documents; verifies zoning compliance for business and in‑home business licenses • Performs advanced planning activities, including major General Plan updates and amendments; monitors implementation effectiveness; recommends actions or petitions for planning, zoning and development • Reviews building, landscaping, fencing, signage, and Conditional Use permit applications and plans • Coordinates various planning studies and related matters with consultants • Receives and reviews development applications; assesses fees; establishes conditions for project approval; responds to public inquiries at the counter, by phone and email • Establishes positive working relationships with community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff, and the public

What You Bring
• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a related field • Master’s degree in urban planning or related field (highly desirable) • Experience preparing and processing CEQA documents • 6–8 years’ experience in professional land use and environmental planning • 3+ years of experience working with a city or county in current or advanced planning (highly desirable) • Thorough knowledge of complex principles of urban planning, development, zoning and redevelopment • Strong written and oral communication skills; experience presenting before Planning Commissions or City Councils
