About the Role

The Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD) unit provides project, programme and commercial management alongside advisory solutions across sectors such as the built environment, defence, energy, water, transport, health and care. As Technical Director in the Industrialised Design and Construction (IDC) team, you will focus on Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) to drive innovation, digital transformation and strategic advisory for major infrastructure programmes. You will work with clients, design teams, manufacturers and contractors to embed industrialised approaches, while also capturing knowledge, mentoring staff and contributing to digital‑tool development. • Develop and deliver IDC advisory services that generate strategic impact and measurable client results. • Provide expert guidance on industrialised approaches, supporting strategic planning, procurement and risk management. • Design and run workshops, thought‑leadership events and stakeholder engagements to build client capability. • Capture and disseminate case studies, lessons learned and a library of proven IDC methods. • Mentor and coach multidisciplinary teams, fostering continuous improvement in advisory practice. • Contribute to digital tools and data models that enhance transparency, traceability and automation of industrialised delivery. • Participate in delivery assurance to ensure advisory recommendations are embedded from concept to completion.

What You Bring

The role is based UK‑wide with essential travel to London-based clients and is being recruited by David McFall. Mott MacDonald is a global engineering, management and development consultancy employing over 20,000 people across more than 50 countries. • Degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or a related field. • Proven experience delivering strategic advisory services for IDC, DfMA or MMC on large portfolios. • Strong communication, facilitation and client‑engagement abilities. • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive change across complex organisations. • Experience developing advisory strategies, frameworks or delivery models. • Ability to mentor and coach multidisciplinary teams. • Understanding of current project and programme delivery approaches (e.g., Construction Playbook, RIBA Plan of Work). • Experience across sectors such as buildings, water, defence, nuclear and transport. • Ambitious, proactive mindset with willingness to challenge the status quo. • Experience with systems engineering, requirements management and digital delivery tools (desirable). • Knowledge of Lean principles, supply‑chain ecosystems and procurement processes (desirable). • Track record of producing thought leadership, case studies or best‑practice guidance (desirable). • Relevant professional certifications or memberships (e.g., Chartered Management Consultancy, Lean Construction Institute) (desirable). • Self‑starter attitude, comfortable in a fast‑changing start‑up environment. • Strategic and lateral thinking with creative problem‑solving. • Consultative approach building trusted client relationships.
