About the Role
As a Civil/Highway EIT/Designer you will join a team of project engineers to design local roadways, perform hydraulic and hydrologic analyses, design storm and sanitary sewers, develop site grading and storm‑water pollution prevention plans, and coordinate utilities, permitting, and regulatory agency interactions. You will be responsible for alignment and profile geometry, drainage design, plan development, specifications, and construction estimates, as well as preparing technical reports, calculations, and specifications. On design‑build projects you will help coordinate design packages, track quality‑control reviews, and keep the project on schedule.

What You Bring
The HDR NY/NJ Transportation Business Group is hiring a Civil/Highway EIT/Designer to work on Design‑Bid‑Build and Design‑Build projects. The role involves producing design criteria, plans, calculations, cost estimates, and specifications for highway and site/civil projects, while collaborating with the NY/NJ Civil/Highway Section. The candidate should be familiar with local and national codes, standards, and specifications. The position is keyword‑focused on Highway, Roadway, Civil, and EIT, and can be located in New York, NY; Newark, NJ; or White Plains, NY. Candidates residing in the metro NY/NJ/CT area are preferred. • MS or BS in Civil Engineering or a closely related field. • EIT status and on track for NY or NJ PE (or titled 'Civil/Highway Designer' if not EIT). • Experience with NYSDOT, NYSTA, NYCDOT, NYCDDC, NJDOT, or NJTA projects. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office. • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work effectively in a team. • Preference for candidates residing in the metro NY/NJ/CT area. • Bachelor’s degree in engineering. • Proficiency with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD; experience with Bentley ConceptStation, Open Roads Designer, Autodesk Infraworks, or Civil3D. • Demonstrated attitude and commitment to an inclusive, employee‑owned environment.
