About the Role

• Support inspections and engineering assessments of existing dams and water‑retaining structures. • Conduct analyses, evaluations, and design studies, providing calculations and design options. • Prepare contract documents, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and critical reports for new or rehabilitated hydraulic structures. • Perform engineering assignments requiring critical thinking and creativity where code guidance is limited. • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on hydropower, pumped‑storage, and dam safety projects. • Assist in risk assessments for dams and hydraulic structures. • Travel as needed for site inspections, meetings, and project requirements.

What You Bring

HDR is seeking entry‑level engineers (EITs) and professional engineers across civil, hydraulics, structural, geotechnical, geological, and mechanical disciplines to join the practice, working on innovative hydropower, pumped‑storage, and dam safety projects. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or related engineering field. • Possess at least 5 years of professional experience in civil/geotechnical engineering (preferred). • Experience with dams, water conveyances, and FERC‑regulated hydropower or pumped‑storage projects. • Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD/MicroStation, and Bentley geotechnical software (gINT/OpenGround/LeapFrog). • Skilled in GeoStudio/Ensoft for slope stability, settlement, seepage, and foundation analysis. • Demonstrated ability to read, review, and interpret geotechnical instrumentation and testing results. • Strong technical writing and verbal communication abilities. • Experience with FERC dam safety processes, including DSSMP, DSSMR, STID preparation, and Part 12D inspections. • Engineer In Training (EIT) certification and computer proficiency required.
