About the Role

The role’s primary purpose is to attend and investigate water pollution incidents, conduct field‑based monitoring and collect environmental samples for laboratory analysis across the Southern Water region. The successful candidate will maintain equipment, keep the vehicle clean, provide timely information to line management, support team performance through knowledge sharing, and attend monthly client meetings as required. • Attend and investigate water pollution incidents across the Southern Water region. • Undertake field monitoring works including water quality measurements and sampling. • Perform desk‑based data entry after collecting field data. • Write technical reports in response to water pollution incidents, time‑limited per client requirements. • Maintain all site equipment and keep the vehicle clean, notifying line manager of new equipment needs. • Provide accurate and timely information to line management. • Support team performance by sharing knowledge and best practices at all levels. • Attend monthly team meetings with the client and contribute where appropriate.

What You Bring

Applicants should hold a degree in Biological or Environmental Sciences, possess a clean UK driving licence, have experience in scientific fieldwork, and be proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word. They must also demonstrate strong organisational, analytical and numerical abilities, close attention to detail, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team. • Degree in a Biological or Environmental Sciences discipline. • Understanding of water chemistry and indicative parameters. • Full clean UK driving licence. • Experience in scientific fieldwork and enthusiasm for working outdoors in all weather. • Competent user of Microsoft Outlook, Excel & Word. • Excellent organisational and time‑management skills. • Strong analytical and numerical skills with close attention to detail. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team following precise protocols. • Motivated, friendly and confident when interacting with clients. • Experience of aquatic macro‑invertebrate sampling and identification to family level (beneficial). • GIS skills (desirable). • Understanding of regulators such as the Environment Agency. • Knowledge of laboratory analysis in environmental monitoring and compliance.
