About the Role

WSP is searching for a Senior Traction Power and Overhead Contact System (OCS) Engineer to work from one of its Northeast offices. The role will lead complex Northeast Corridor railroad projects within the National Transit and Rail Systems Business, helping clients achieve their objectives and overcome challenges. The engineer will lead cross‑functional teams of engineers, planners and other specialists to deliver traction power and OCS design for multiple concurrent Amtrak and Northeast Corridor projects. They will apply systems‑engineering concepts throughout the project life cycle, from concept development through commissioning and transition to operation. Responsibilities include reviewing designs and specifications for compliance, evaluating cost estimates, staying current with engineering practices, and supporting business‑development proposals. The role also encompasses contract negotiation, client and internal meetings, performance guidance for staff, and collaboration as a trusted advisor while adhering to WSP’s ethical and quality standards. • Lead cross‑functional engineering teams on multiple Northeast Corridor rail projects. • Apply systems‑engineering processes from concept through commissioning and operations. • Review and validate traction power and OCS designs, specifications, and cost estimates. • Stay current with the latest traction power and OCS engineering techniques. • Support business‑development opportunities, proposals, and contract negotiations. • Ensure quality of deliverables and adherence to WSP’s Code of Conduct. • Provide performance guidance and mentorship to assigned staff. • Act as a trusted advisor delivering future‑ready solutions to clients.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering (or a closely related field) and has more than ten years of post‑degree experience in planning, design, procurement, installation, testing, commissioning, cut‑over, project management, and construction management of traction power and OCS systems for Amtrak or comparable railroads. They possess advanced written and interpersonal communication skills, are proficient in systems‑engineering principles, and have a strong record of critical document review and technical deliverable preparation. The candidate demonstrates well‑developed critical‑thinking and problem‑solving abilities, a proven safety record, flexibility to adapt to changing schedules, and immediate availability to work in the U.S., with occasional travel as required. Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in engineering and professional licensure or certification. • Minimum 10+ years experience with traction power/OCS systems for Amtrak or similar railroads. • Bachelor’s (or Master’s) degree in engineering; professional licensure preferred. • Strong written and interpersonal communication, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills. • Ability to travel occasionally and work flexible schedules.

The expected salary range for this position is $115,800 to $205,000, depending on education, experience, skills, internal equity and geographic location. WSP reserves the right to adjust compensation within or beyond this range and to provide additional benefits as permitted by law. • Competitive salary $115,800‑$205,000 plus comprehensive health, retirement, and paid‑time‑off benefits.
