About the Role

Key accountabilities include managing engineering activities that advance sustainable development while applying Arcadis Health and Safety principles, collaborating with other design disciplines, and establishing project collaboration approaches with global colleagues. The engineer will prepare and manage design solutions, BIM models, drawings, reports and specifications, attend project meetings, review team outputs, maintain hazard and design decision logs, and oversee project planning, resource allocation, and technical issue resolution while mentoring junior staff. • Lead and manage civil engineering design for urban development projects, including drainage, utilities, earthworks, and highway interfaces. • Collaborate with cross‑disciplinary and global design teams to deliver integrated solutions. • Prepare and oversee BIM models, drawings, reports, and specifications throughout project stages. • Ensure compliance with Arcadis Health & Safety Principles and Integrated Management System requirements. • Maintain Designer Hazard Logs, Design Decision Logs, and Project Assumptions registers, communicating residual risks. • Plan and coordinate project resources, tasks, and team members to meet schedules. • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, technicians, and apprentices.

What You Bring

The Places Design Practice is seeking a senior or principal engineer with proven experience in civil engineering and urban development for building projects, covering surface and foul drainage, utilities, ground works, and highway interfaces. The role supports the delivery of urban development services, working alongside cross‑GBA teams, GEC, and global Places experts, and experience in industrial manufacturing, tech, or defence projects is a plus. Candidates must hold a degree with Chartered or Incorporated status (or be close to chartered) and have extensive experience in civil/urban design, including drainage, highways, and utilities. Required expertise includes MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, AutoCAD Civil3D, BIM integration, and knowledge of design standards such as SuDS, SfA, DMRB, and Building Regulations, alongside strong project management, commercial, and client relationship skills. • Hold a degree with Chartered or Incorporated status (or near chartered) and proven experience in civil/urban design. • Proficient in MicroDrainage/InfoDrainage, AutoCAD Civil3D, and BIM integration; knowledgeable of SuDS, SfA, DMRB, and Building Regulations. • Demonstrated project management, commercial, and client relationship skills.
