About the Role

The role is responsible for owning, evolving, and scaling the White Cap design system to ensure a consistent, accessible, and high‑quality user experience across the eCommerce platform and future digital products. It defines a long‑term, scalable design system strategy, expands adoption beyond WhiteCap.com, and creates a centralized design system portal that serves as the single source of truth for components, patterns, and guidelines. Key responsibilities include maintaining a unified source of truth, scaling the Figma library, delivering prioritized system updates, applying Atomic Design principles, and developing a strategy to democratize the system through a centralized portal. The incumbent partners with product designers and engineers to translate requirements into reusable components, ensure accessibility, write clear user stories, conduct design QA, and maintain comprehensive documentation. • Own and evolve the White Cap design system, maintaining a unified source of truth and scaling the Figma library. • Define and implement a long‑term design system strategy, including a centralized portal for components, patterns, and guidelines. • Partner with product designers and engineers to create reusable, accessible components and ensure accurate production implementation. • Write clear user stories and acceptance criteria, conduct design QA, and maintain comprehensive documentation for designers and developers. • Identify and solve complex problems, make decisions under uncertainty, and oversee project planning and progress monitoring.

What You Bring

The position requires strong problem‑solving skills to identify core barriers, troubleshoot complex issues, and make effective decisions under uncertainty. While working independently with limited instruction, the role may oversee project planning, assignment monitoring, and contribute to professional development, though it does not include hiring or firing authority. Work is performed in a comfortable indoor environment with mostly sedentary duties, occasional movement, and rare light lifting. Travel is infrequent, typically less than 10% overnight. Applicants generally need a BS/BA in a related discipline with 5‑8 years of experience, or an MS/MA with 3‑5 years of experience, and may require relevant certification. Preferred candidates have 6+ years of professional product or digital design experience, including at least 3 years leading a design system in Figma across multiple teams, strong knowledge of Atomic Design, advanced Figma skills (components, variables, versioning), and solid understanding of accessibility best practices. Excellent communication, collaboration in agile environments, and familiarity with component libraries such as Shadcn are also valued. • Required education: BS/BA (5‑8 years experience) or MS/MA (3‑5 years experience) with applicable certification. • Preferred qualifications: 6+ years product/digital design, 3+ years leading a design system in Figma, expertise in Atomic Design and accessibility, advanced Figma proficiency, agile collaboration, and familiarity with component libraries such as Shadcn.
