They will influence development processes across the organization, supervise a small technical team, and act as a strategic communicator and mentor for senior engineers. • Lead long‑range planning for thermal product families and act as thermal system architect. • Own and define product‑family thermal architecture and integration to ensure platform compatibility. • Define and coordinate specifications, establishing thermal performance standards. • Influence and improve thermal system development processes across the organization. • Supervise a technical team of 2‑5 engineers and technicians, leading multi‑domain integration projects. • Serve as strategic communicator for the thermal organization and mentor senior engineers.

What You Bring
Johnson Controls’ Data Center Product Architecture team is looking for a Staff Data Center Thermal Systems Engineer to join the Advanced Technology & Innovation group. The role serves as the technical leader for data‑center thermal solutions, driving long‑range planning for thermal product families and defining integration architectures that ensure platform compatibility. This position is onsite at the Advanced Technology and Innovation Center in New Freedom, PA, requiring a minimum three‑day weekly presence and relocation or commuting ability. The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with at least ten years of experience delivering multiple thermal products or systems, preferably in the chiller or large‑scale HVAC industry. Required skills include system‑level expertise across thermal families, proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, Creo), engineering calculation tools, Excel/VBA, and deep knowledge of heat‑transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and component sizing. Preferred qualifications are a master’s degree, Python scripting, CFD/FEA tools, and experience with MATLAB/Simulink and control fundamentals. • Require B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or related) with 10+ years of thermal product/system experience. • Experience in chiller or large‑scale HVAC industry and system‑level expertise across thermal families. • Proficient in CAD (SolidWorks, Creo), engineering calculation tools (MathCAD, EES), and Excel/VBA. • Skilled in heat‑transfer analysis, thermodynamic cycles, fluid mechanics, and component sizing. • Familiar with prototype fabrication, hands‑on testing, and cross‑functional project execution. • Preferred: M.S. degree, Python scripting, CFD/FEA tools, MATLAB/Simulink, and controls fundamentals.
