About the Role

The Construction Manager is tasked with delivering construction and improvement projects for the electric transmission system. Responsibilities include identifying contract‑worthy projects, assessing feasibility and site details, coordinating with construction crews and inspectors, and providing on‑site construction oversight as required. In this role, the manager works closely with Project Managers to align construction targets, prepares and reviews project documentation, and leads job walk‑downs and design reviews to ensure constructability. The manager also serves as the primary point of contact for contractors, secures needed resources, and ensures that safety, quality, cost, and schedule goals are met throughout the project lifecycle. • Identify and develop contract‑worthy construction and improvement projects for the transmission system. • Collaborate with Project Managers to define construction targets and assess project feasibility. • Prepare and review RFPs, job packages, and contracts; renegotiate scope as needed. • Lead job walk‑downs, 30/60/90 design reviews, and constructability discussions with engineers and contractors. • Coordinate daily construction activities, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives. • Act as primary point of contact for contractors, securing resources and maintaining workflow. • Serve as Incident Commander and PG&E field representative, enforcing safety plans and environmental permits. • Oversee field inspectors to ensure comprehensive inspection coverage of construction work. • Communicate engineering and design issues, manage change orders, and make cost‑schedule decisions within authority limits. • Provide mentoring and training to associate, career, and senior level employees.

What You Bring

Candidates must have at least seven years of experience in industrial engineering or construction and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent field, with specific experience in substations. Desired qualifications include nine or more years of relevant experience, advanced knowledge of California and Federal regulatory requirements, familiarity with PG&E’s emergency management processes, and the ability to lead training and long‑term planning activities. • Minimum 7 years of industrial engineering or construction experience with a relevant Bachelor's degree. • Experience working on substation projects. • Desired 9+ years of experience and advanced knowledge of California and Federal (FERC) regulatory requirements. • Familiarity with PG&E emergency management processes. • Ability to lead training, coach less experienced staff, and perform long‑term planning and scheduling.
