About the Role
Mortenson is hiring a Safety Engineer II who will work across all staff levels in a dynamic environment. The role focuses on implementing the company's Zero Injury Safety program at construction sites to ensure a safe environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors. The engineer must act professionally, maintain confidentiality, and be flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient. The Safety Engineer will administer site‑specific safety programs, assist project management in developing safety activities, and lead orientations and training. They will document violations, conduct audits, collect and analyze safety indicator data, and support major incident investigations. Additionally, they will record safety statistics and manage OSHA reporting requirements. • Implement and administer safety programs at each worksite. • Assist project management in developing and executing site‑specific safety programs and activities. • Attend, coordinate, and conduct safety orientation and training programs at the project level. • Document and track all safety violations and unsafe conditions. • Conduct work‑area safety audits. • Collect and analyze leading and trailing safety indicator data. • Conduct or assist with major incident analysis. • Record, monitor, and analyze safety, injury, and hazard statistics. • Coordinate OSHA reporting and posting requirements.

What You Bring
Candidates may hold a bachelor’s degree in safety or a related field, or possess a high school diploma with relevant certifications (STS/CHST, OSHA 30) and at least seven years of construction experience, including five years managing safety programs. Minimum one year of related experience, strong organizational skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety software, and a positive, customer‑service mindset are required. Effective communication, public speaking, leadership, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to travel up to 100% are also essential. • Bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health, or related field, OR high school diploma with STS/CHST certification, OSHA 30‑hour training, and at least seven years construction experience (five in safety program management). • Minimum of one year of related experience. • Detail‑oriented with ability to organize multiple project tasks. • Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety‑related software. • Positive, professional attitude with strong customer‑service skills. • Ability to interpret and communicate company policies. • Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem‑solving, and leadership abilities. • Effective public speaking and presentation skills. • Current driver’s license. • Ability to travel up to 100%.

The position offers a base salary from $81,800 to $110,400, with higher ranges for select locations, and eligibility for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
