About the Role
The Groundman position is an entry-level role in the construction and maintenance of the nation's Power Grid. You will assist your team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems. As a Groundman you will support your team by securing the safety of yourself and others, assisting fellow line‑workers to meet project objectives, readily joining storm restoration efforts, operating vehicles and equipment professionally, and continuing training to improve technical and leadership skills. Work is performed outdoors and may expose team members to fumes, airborne particles, noise, vibration, mechanical parts, and extreme weather conditions. Core functions include safely performing new construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de‑energized overhead lines, inspecting PPE, stringing overhead wire, setting poles and anchors, assisting with transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, cross‑arms, insulators, switches, and switchgear, replacing fuses, clearing faulted circuits, maintaining vehicles and tools, and applying basic rigging, knot tying, voltage identification, and rescue techniques. • Secure personal and crew safety on all tasks. • Assist line‑workers to meet project objectives. • Participate in storm restoration efforts. • Operate vehicles and equipment professionally. • Follow established safety rules and company policies. • Travel long distances on short notice and work extended periods onsite. • Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of energized and de‑energized overhead lines. • Inspect and use personal protective equipment correctly. • String overhead wire, set poles and anchors. • Assist with installing transformers, lightning arrestors, cutouts, cross‑arms, insulators, switches, and switchgear. • Replace transformer fuses and clear faulted circuits. • Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and hand tools. • Apply basic rigging, hand lines, and lineman knot tying. • Conduct basic bucket rescue/escape procedures. • Perform excavation, shoring, and grounding tasks safely. • Climb wood, steel, or other structures using appropriate tools.

What You Bring
The role demands regular standing, walking, climbing various structures, lifting or moving up to 50 lb, and using vision abilities such as close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. General expectations are the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days, communicate effectively, travel long distances on short notice, work extended periods onsite, lift over 50 lb, and be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required. • Demonstrate team‑oriented, self‑motivated, and ethical behavior. • Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days. • Communicate effectively in reading, writing, and speaking. • Lift and move objects exceeding 50 lb. • Identify primary and secondary voltage and understand induced voltage. • Work at heights and in confined spaces, adhering to minimum approach distances. • Use Kellum grips correctly when required.
