About the Role
American Electric Power (AEP) is hiring a Fleet Technician B to maintain and repair the company’s diverse vehicle fleet, which includes sedans, light to heavy trucks, trailers, and specialized equipment. The role ensures that all fleet assets remain operational and safe for use. The technician will perform service and repair work on mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems across a variety of equipment, diagnose problems, and conduct testing to verify functionality. Additional responsibilities include operating company vehicles, keeping tools and work areas organized, and documenting work performed. • Service and repair boom/pedestal assemblies, including cables, chains, sheaves, and reduction gearboxes • Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, replacing pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, and accumulators • Troubleshoot heating, ventilation, and A/C units, including compressor and refrigerant component replacement • Repair winch assemblies and steering systems, both power and manual • Maintain air‑brake and hydraulic/electric braking systems, including master cylinder and anti‑lock brakes • Inspect and service differentials, transmissions, transfer cases, and power dividers • Service fuel, exhaust, and diesel injection systems, including fuel pumps and turbochargers • Operate company vehicles and associated equipment while performing incidental duties • Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and orderly • Maintain accurate records, submit required reports, and report irregularities • Participate in and assist with employee training programs • Direct the work of assisting employees and perform less‑skilled tasks as assigned

What You Bring
Applicants must hold a high‑school diploma or GED and possess solid automotive mechanical experience, especially with hydraulic and diesel systems. A valid driver’s license and the willingness to obtain any additional certifications required by AEP are also essential. The position requires physical strength, including lifting up to 100 pounds, working at heights, and frequent use of hand tools in environments ranging from concrete floors to rough terrain. Travel and shift work may be required depending on operational needs. • High school diploma or GED required • Minimum two years of automotive mechanical diagnosis with hydraulic and diesel repair experience • Valid state driver’s license; obtain Class A CDL within 12 months of hire • Obtain Fluid Power Society certification and two ASE certifications within 24 months • Pass the Tuff Tech pre‑employment placement test • Physical ability to lift 100 lb, work at heights, and perform frequent walking and standing on concrete or rough terrain
