Structural Engineering Intern - Transmission Line

Job Highlights
About the Role
Interns will regularly use technical software to analyze, produce, and quality‑check deliverables while contributing to pre‑construction on high‑voltage transmission line projects that include steel lattice towers, steel monopoles, reinforced concrete foundations, and 3D modeling for utilities and private developers. They will learn to operate Powerline Systems in PLS‑CADD for 3D modeling, calculate and verify code‑required clearances, perform finite‑element analysis, and generate drawings and calculations for client review, as well as use FAD Tools or LPile to design foundations based on geotechnical reports. Additional duties include preparing transmission line plans, specifications, and estimates, solving complex problems, assisting project managers, collaborating across disciplines, and becoming familiar with relevant federal, state, and local regulations. • Use technical software to analyze, produce, and quality‑check engineering deliverables. • Contribute to pre‑construction of high‑voltage transmission lines, including steel towers, monopoles, and concrete foundations. • Model powerlines in PLS‑CADD, verify clearances, and perform finite‑element analysis. • Perform foundation calculations with FAD Tools or LPile using geotechnical data. • Prepare plans, specifications, estimates, drawings, and calculations for client review. • Solve complex problems, assist project managers, and collaborate across disciplines. • Learn and apply industry software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, GIS, and others.

Interns will gain experience with software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, MicroStation, PLS‑CADD, PLS‑Pole, FAS Tools, LPile, and GIS while pursuing an ABET‑accredited engineering degree in civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, biological, chemical, agricultural, or engineering technology disciplines. • Pursue an ABET‑accredited engineering degree in civil, structural, or related engineering fields.
