About the Role
The Conductor is responsible for overseeing train operations, freight handling, and crew activities. This includes operating track switches, coupling and uncoupling cars, and positioning equipment in rail yards and on the mainline while following dispatcher, yardmaster, and other personnel instructions. The role must be performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations, and OmniTRAX’s core values of safety, honesty, ownership, respect, and teamwork. Key duties involve ensuring compliance with all railroad safety and operational rules, moving trains within yards and on roads, and using hand signals, lanterns, or radio communication to control train movements. The Conductor instructs crew members on coupling, uncoupling, and minor railcar repairs, coordinates railcar switch lists, prepares daily reports and switch lists, and inspects equipment both in motion and when stationary. Work hours follow a 24‑hour on‑call schedule with possible overtime, shift work, and nonstandard workweeks. Employees must wear required personal protective equipment such as hard hats, hearing protection, safety‑toe boots, and safety glasses, and they may be exposed to hot, cold, wet, windy, noisy, or fume‑laden environments. • Ensure compliance with FRA safety and operational regulations. • Operate track switches and control train movements using hand signals, lanterns, or radios. • Instruct crew to couple/uncouple cars and perform minor railcar repairs. • Coordinate and execute railcar switch lists and prepare daily reports. • Communicate with locomotive engineers and yard personnel using proper protocols. • Inspect equipment condition during motion and while stationary. • Maintain awareness of surroundings and report suspicious activity. • Follow a 24‑hour on‑call schedule with possible overtime and shift work. • Work in environments with extreme weather, loud noise, and potential exposure to fumes.

What You Bring
Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, basic computer skills, and the ability to pass job‑related health examinations and the FRA operating rules test. Candidates must demonstrate sound judgment, problem‑solving abilities, professional integrity, and effective communication skills, and must hold a valid state driver’s license and obtain FRA Conductor certification after hire. Preferred candidates have prior experience in rail transportation, supply chain logistics, manufacturing, or oil and gas industries, and may hold an FRA Engineer certification. The position demands physical capabilities such as lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, and maintaining balance to handle various rail equipment and tasks. • Wear required personal protective equipment (hard hat, hearing protection, safety‑toe boots, safety glasses). • Hold a valid state driver’s license and obtain FRA Conductor certification post‑hire. • Possess a high school diploma/GED and basic Microsoft Office skills. • Demonstrate sound judgment, problem‑solving, and professional integrity. • Preferred: experience in rail transportation, supply chain, manufacturing, or oil & gas. • Preferred: FRA Engineer certification.
