About the Role

Join our high‑performing Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) team in Phoenix, AZ as a SUE Technician II, where you will map and protect the unseen utility systems that keep cities moving. Working closely with senior SUE staff, project managers, and engineers, you will identify utility conflicts using technologies such as electromagnetic line locators, ground‑penetrating radar, GPS, conventional survey, and vacuum excavation. Your role combines cutting‑edge technology, field expertise, and infrastructure innovation to enable safer, smarter design decisions. • Collaborate with team members on diverse projects. • Read and interpret utility records, as‑built and survey drawings, and highway design plans. • Designate existing utilities using electromagnetic and geophysical technologies. • Operate and drive a vacuum excavation truck to perform test holes and expose utilities. • Implement appropriate traffic maintenance measures. • Process “One‑Call” tickets. • Coordinate survey work related to SUE. • Supervise field crew activities. • Train junior crew members. • Represent Colliers Engineering & Design in the field and liaise with utility companies. • Pass pre‑employment drug screening and participate in ongoing random testing.

What You Bring

The SUE team mitigates risks associated with new infrastructure design and construction by collaborating with engineers and utility owners. Precision and technical ability are essential as you employ electromagnetic and geophysical tools to locate and designate utilities. Safety, accuracy, and impact drive daily operations in both high‑profile transportation corridors and evolving urban developments. • Minimum 2 years experience with electromagnetic and geophysical designating technologies (5+ years preferred). • Experience operating a VAC truck preferred. • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and software. • Strong reading comprehension, communication, and basic computer skills. • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and traveling as needed. • Ability to walk several miles daily and lift up to 80 lb; maintain a clean driving record. • Prioritize safety of self and others; flexible to work nights/weekends. • Proficient in English for written and verbal communication.
