About the Role

The Billing Operations Specialist supports daily billing system functions and assists the Corporate Call Center at GFL Environmental, delivering professional service to both internal and external stakeholders through multiple communication channels. In this position, the incumbent oversees the generation of accurate invoices for various customer segments, produces essential billing and call‑center metrics, and conducts analysis to identify revenue trends and potential leakage. They also collaborate with branch teams, manage reporting requirements, and ensure compliance with payment processing standards. • Deliver professional customer service via phone, email, web, or in‑person. • Produce monthly centralized billing and call center metrics, revenue analysis, and reports. • Generate accurate billing for residential, temporary, and commercial customers. • Identify, track, prevent, and report revenue leakage; implement corrective actions. • Lead the Cycle Level Loading Project to ensure level‑loaded billing. • Prepare, maintain, and distribute standard and ad‑hoc billing reports. • Test and audit acquisition data related to customer information and billing. • Analyze billing, revenue, and customer trends and issues. • Process and analyze invoicing files for Corporate Accounts. • Coordinate with branches to communicate reroutes, price increases, and mailers. • Train new staff members on billing procedures. • Provide billing support to branches for PC Scales and Tower systems. • Serve as escalation support for Corporate Call Center billing and service issues. • Ensure PCI compliance for payment processing. • Maintain service levels and performance metrics supporting customer satisfaction. • Answer incoming calls from multiple branches following branch‑specific procedures. • Provide backup support to the Contract Data Entry group. • May be required to work more than 40 hours per week based on operational needs.

What You Bring

Candidates must have at least two years of experience in accounting‑related roles such as billing or collections, or an equivalent blend of education and experience, with a preference for background in the waste industry. The role requires strong proficiency with Tower, PC Scale, JD Edwards, and the Microsoft Office suite, as well as the ability to operate standard office equipment. Key personal attributes include a proactive, solution‑focused mindset, solid leadership and communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the capacity to handle pressure and tight deadlines in a fast‑moving environment. Physical demands involve the ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, and use hands while maintaining clear communication; visual acuity for close and peripheral tasks is also necessary, and occasional overtime beyond a 40‑hour week may be required. • Minimum 2 years of accounting‑related experience (billing, collections, IT) or equivalent education/experience. • Waste industry experience preferred. • Proficiency with Tower, PC Scale, JD Edwards, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Project). • Ability to operate standard office equipment. • Proactive, solution‑oriented team contributor. • Strong leadership, customer service, and verbal/written communication skills. • Excellent attention to detail with analytical and reporting abilities. • Strong organizational and strategic thinking capabilities. • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast‑paced environment. • Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, use hands, and communicate effectively. • Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, and focus adjustment.
