About the Role
The Geotechnical Department Manager leads both the technical team and the profitability of the department. With extensive field experience and business acumen, the manager mentors engineers, technicians, and project managers in technical excellence and client relationship building. In the Orlando office, the manager oversees the full lifecycle of geotechnical projects, directs a multidisciplinary team, and ensures compliance with best practices, safety and quality standards. Responsibilities include technical review of deliverables, budget and financial performance tracking, staff development through training, and supporting business development initiatives. The manager also fosters a positive culture aligned with company values and high employee engagement. • Manage full lifecycle of geotechnical engineering projects. • Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, geologists, project managers, and technicians. • Ensure adherence to geotechnical best practices, safety standards, and quality control. • Conduct technical reviews of proposals, reports, and calculations. • Track department budget, revenue, forecasts, and overall financial performance. • Set goals and develop staff skills through training initiatives. • Support senior staff in business development via community involvement and client engagement. • Promote company values, positive culture, and high employee engagement. • Maintain extensive technical knowledge of geotechnical concepts and applications.

What You Bring
Candidates must have at least ten years of civil or geotechnical engineering experience, proven leadership, communication and client-facing skills, and deep technical knowledge of geotechnical concepts. Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and P&L, as well as experience in business development, is required. A BS in Civil or Geological Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is mandatory; an MS with a geotechnical focus and a PE or Professional Geologist license are preferred, or the ability to obtain licensure within three months. • Possess 10+ years of civil/geotechnical engineering experience. • Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building abilities. • Exhibit proven budget, forecast, and P&L management track record. • Have business development experience engaging clients and winning projects. • Understand geotechnical conditions and construction industry practices. • Hold a BS in Civil or Geological Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution. • Preferably hold an MS in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical emphasis. • Preferred licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG), or ability to obtain within three months.
