About the Role

The position applies diversified engineering principles to highway and roadway operations, leads technical design tasks, and develops roadway, sidewalk, and intersection designs including roundabouts, traffic signals, and interchanges. The assistant project manager will perform QA/QC, coordinate tasks across internal disciplines, serve as a client and contractor liaison, and assist in training and mentoring staff while supporting basic project‑management functions such as staffing, scope development, scheduling, and budgeting. • Apply engineering principles to support highway and roadway operations. • Lead technical design tasks, producing plans, specifications, estimates, calculations, reports, and construction documents. • Develop designs for roadways, sidewalks, intersections, roundabouts, traffic signals, and interchanges. • Perform QA/QC on drafts and serve as quality coordinator for discipline‑led projects. • Coordinate project tasks across internal disciplines and act as point of contact for clients, design partners, and contractors. • Train, mentor, and supervise design engineers, providing technical guidance. • Support project‑management activities including staffing, scope and proposal development, scheduling, and budgeting. • Attend project meetings and deliver client or public presentations.

What You Bring

Qualified candidates must hold a civil engineering bachelor’s degree, a professional PE license, and possess at least six years of infrastructure design experience; familiarity with MicroStation, InRoads/OpenRoads Designer or Civil 3D, NJ county processes, and NJDOT/NJTA projects is advantageous. • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. • Professional Engineer (PE) license. • Minimum 6 years of infrastructure engineering design experience (drainage a plus). • Proficiency with MicroStation, InRoads/OpenRoads Designer, or Civil 3D (preferred). • Familiarity with New Jersey counties and NJDOT/NJTA or Federal Aid project experience (preferred). • Active membership in a professional practice organization or willingness to join. • Strong English reading, writing, and communication skills.
