About the Role
The Resident Engineer (RE) position in Los Angeles supports Arcadis by executing a wide range of professional engineering tasks in both field and office environments. Reporting directly to the project team, the RE administers construction contracts, monitors the work of LACMTA, State, and contractors, and ensures compliance with the Caltrans Construction Manual and related specifications. Key accountabilities include directing CMSS and contractor personnel to maintain accurate contract records, overseeing compliance with plans and quality standards, and coordinating pre‑construction meetings, weekly status updates, and close‑out activities. The RE performs inspections across all construction phases—paving, grading, drainage, utilities, signage, and landscaping—and develops effective solutions to field issues and contract deficiencies. The role also involves preparing change‑order proposals, conducting engineering redesign when required, reviewing CPM schedules, identifying project risks, and documenting daily project activities. Accurate quantity calculations, progress payment estimates, and timely submittal of monthly pay packages are essential to maintaining project financial health. • Administer construction contracts per Caltrans Construction Manual and oversee LACMTA, State, and contractor work. • Review progress, monitor materials, inspect finished products, and ensure compliance with contract documents. • Direct CMSS and contractor staff to maintain accurate contract records, expenditures, and budgets per regulations. • Conduct pre‑construction meetings, coordinate agency communications, and manage weekly status and close‑out meetings. • Inspect all construction phases including paving, grading, drainage, utilities, signage, and landscaping. • Develop field solutions and contract change orders, including engineering redesign as needed. • Review CPM schedules, identify risks, and maintain daily project diaries. • Prepare quantity calculations and progress payment estimates; ensure timely submittal of monthly pay packages. • Review shop drawings and perform constructability reviews.

What You Bring
Candidates should have roughly ten years of experience in heavy civil construction or construction management, a bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline, and be registered as an Engineer-in‑Training. A valid California Class C driver’s license is required. Preferred qualifications include prior experience with Caltrans projects and previous contractor roles such as project manager, superintendent, or engineer. These backgrounds help the RE navigate complex contractual and technical environments more effectively. • Approximately ten years of heavy civil construction or construction management experience. • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. • Registered Engineer-in‑Training (EIT) and valid California Class C driver’s license. • Preferred: experience with Caltrans projects. • Preferred: prior contractor roles such as project manager, superintendent, or engineer.
