Application Support Specialist

About the Role

• Ensure applications meet reliability and service level targets aligned with ITIL. • Perform proactive monitoring, incident triage, troubleshooting and lifecycle management. • Manage upgrades, deployments and decommissioning according to vendor roadmaps. • Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, platform owners and users. • Maintain up‑to‑date documentation, knowledge bases and technical runbooks. • Provide on‑call support for critical after‑hours incidents. • Identify automation opportunities and drive continuous service improvement. • Participate in design, build, test and release processes for platform enhancements. • Act as a key technical resource within a cross‑functional agile team. • Prepare requirements, design documents, test plans and as‑built artefacts. • Support delivery of major multi‑stream programs and solution assessments. • Provide technical input for training materials and platform readiness. • Contribute to architectural patterns and building blocks. • Ensure changes align with enterprise architecture principles. • Support technology strategy, platform roadmaps and architecture forums. • Collaborate with cyber teams to meet security strategy and remediate gaps. • Maintain security baselines including patching, DR, IAM, data protection and vulnerability management. • Support audits, risk assessments and compliance reporting. • Define and execute technical controls to improve platform resilience. • Hands‑on with SQL Server, Oracle, Azure SQL and Dataverse. • Deploy and support Commercial Off‑The‑Shelf (COTS) vendor platforms. • Troubleshoot across middleware, infrastructure and security layers. • Use documentation tools (e.g., Confluence) and source control (e.g., Bitbucket).

What You Bring

We are hiring an experienced Application Support Specialist on a 9‑month fixed‑term contract at our Geelong refinery. The role is responsible for keeping business‑critical applications running reliably, securely and at peak performance, working across complex platforms and collaborating with vendors, product owners, cloud engineers and security teams. The ideal candidate brings at least five years of hands‑on support for large‑scale, 24/7 operational systems, strong expertise in SQL Server, Oracle, Azure SQL, Dataverse and COTS platforms, and solid experience with Azure cloud services, Windows Server, IIS and Active Directory. They should be proficient in API‑driven architectures, SSIS, Azure Data Factory, and have a good grasp of documentation tools, source‑control, ITIL processes and both agile and waterfall delivery methods. • 5+ years experience supporting large‑scale, 24/7 critical systems. • Experience with API‑driven architectures, SSIS, Azure Data Factory and SQL development. • Proficient in Windows Server, IIS, SOE, Active Directory, Group Policy and SCCM packaging. • Strong cloud expertise, especially Azure app hosting, databases and virtualization. • Demonstrate knowledge‑sharing and stakeholder management skills. • Preferred: Power Platform and AVEVA PI system experience. • ITIL knowledge for incident, problem and change management. • Experience in both agile and waterfall delivery environments. • Solid understanding of systems architecture, configuration and cloud migration. • Eagerness to upskill and learn new technologies.
