About the Role
In this role you will shape the future of mobility, designing innovative solutions that affect thousands of commuters daily. You will work on a diverse range of projects, from signal timing plans and intersection improvements to complex traffic studies, using tools such as VISSIM microsimulation modeling and Open Roads Designer for 3D plans. You will develop and design traffic engineering projects, conduct traffic studies, create signal timing plans, perform operations analyses, and build microsimulation models. You will prepare project plans and drawings, collaborate with colleagues, manage budgets and schedules, and conduct field work as needed. You will also research and gather traffic data, perform calculations, and explore new transportation solutions. • Design traffic engineering projects and develop signal timing plans. • Conduct traffic studies, operations analyses, and build microsimulation models (VISSIM). • Prepare project drawings, collaborate with team members, and manage budgets and schedules. • Perform field work and gather traffic data for transportation analyses.

Keep Central Texas Moving: Become a Traffic Engineer at Freese and Nichols! Do you have a passion for optimizing traffic flow and creating efficient transportation systems? Freese and Nichols' Central Texas Transportation team is seeking a talented and driven Traffic Engineer to join our growing team in Austin or San Antonio. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering and will obtain a Texas P.E. license within six months. At least six years of transportation and traffic engineering experience are required. Experience with MicroStation, AutoCAD, Synchro, VISSIM, TRANSCAD, and familiarity with MUTCD, HCM, AASHTO standards are preferred, as is knowledge of ITS applications. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering and obtain Texas PE license within 6 months. • Bring 6+ years of transportation and traffic engineering experience. • Experience with MicroStation/AutoCAD, Synchro, VISSIM, TRANSCAD and knowledge of MUTCD, HCM, AASHTO standards. • Knowledge of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is a plus.
