About the Role

Key duties include determining pipe dimensions and material selections, planning layouts and welding sequences, positioning components in various orientations, and executing a range of arc‑welding processes. The technician will also operate welding equipment, prepare joints, apply filler material, perform inspections, handle materials, assist with lifts, conduct minor tool maintenance, and ensure compliance with all safety and project regulations. • Choose pipe dimensions and material types per specification. • Design layout, assembly sequence, and welding parameters using geometry and metal properties. • Perform welding with various arc processes (GMAW, GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, SAW, Submerged Arc). • Arrange and align components in multiple orientations. • Configure welding parameters (amperage, voltage, slope, pulse) via cable connections. • Insert appropriate electrode or feed consumable wire into the welding gun. • Activate power supply to generate the welding arc. • Guide electrode/gun along the weld line to achieve required fusion depth. • Apply filler rod, clean joints, repair defects, remove excess material, and preheat workpieces. • Cut metal plates or structural shapes as required. • Inspect welds for bead size and specification compliance. • Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, and equipment. • Assist with lifting, positioning, and securing work pieces during installation. • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment. • Use respiratory protection and adhere to safety and certification requirements. • Pass performance and certification tests; execute only authorized procedures. • Maintain precise accuracy limits and make decisions based on measurable data. • Apply basic mathematics, plan tasks, select tools, and visualize three‑dimensional objects from drawings. • Compare dimensions and shapes to identify differences.

Key Responsibilities

  • pipe selection
  • layout design
  • welding processes
  • weld inspection
  • material handling
  • safety compliance

What You Bring

The welding technician must be capable of certifying on multi‑process pipe and be proficient in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW welding techniques, with the possibility of requiring x‑ray quality inspections. The role involves laying out, aligning, and welding fabricated, cast, and forged components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, buildings, and piping, following blueprints and metallurgical specifications. The position requires precise work within defined accuracy limits, decision‑making based on quantifiable criteria, basic mathematics, and the ability to visualize three‑dimensional objects from drawings. Candidates should possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent, relevant experience, and be able to follow established procedures under direct supervision. Physical demands include standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, lifting and carrying up to 35 lb, and frequent activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, and fingering. Symbol definitions indicate the frequency of each activity, ranging from occasional to constant. • Secure and weld piping, plates, tubes, and structural shapes in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions. • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience and follow supervisor instructions.
