About the Role
Reporting to the VP of Experience Foundations, the role functions as a senior member of the AEC Experience Foundations leadership team and oversees a global organization of more than 70 designers, with dotted‑line relationships to researchers, content designers, and operations across North America, EMEA, and APAC. Close partnership with Product, Engineering, AI/ML, and Business leaders is expected to shape the future of Autodesk’s AEC platform. • Define and champion a multi‑year UX design vision for Autodesk’s AEC tools based on real customer workflows. • Establish a north‑star for tool unification, modernization, and cohesive experience across products. • Align experience strategy with Autodesk’s Forma Industry Cloud and broader AEC business goals. • Lead development of agent‑powered features such as copilots, assistants, automation, and proactive workflows. • Collaborate with AI/ML teams to embed reasoning, tool use, memory, and orchestration frameworks into AEC workflows. • Drive consistency and scalability through design systems, shared patterns, and foundational UX capabilities. • Integrate AEC tools into a cohesive ecosystem across desktop, cloud, and connected services. • Balance innovation with craft, usability, performance, and technical constraints in mature products. • Build and inspire a global team of UX designers, researchers, and design leaders. • Coach senior design managers, set clear charters, expectations, and growth paths. • Foster a culture of customer empathy, experimentation, quality, and accountability at scale. • Maintain operational excellence with clear prioritization, healthy team structures, and strong execution rhythms. • Serve as trusted advisor to senior Product, Engineering, and Data Science leaders. • Advocate for customer‑centered decision‑making while balancing business and technical realities. • Represent UX design in executive forums and strategic planning.

What You Bring
Autodesk is seeking a Senior Director of User Experience Design, Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) Design Tools within the Experience Foundations organization. The leader will set the experience vision, strategy, and operating model for Autodesk’s core AEC design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Forma Design. The position is remote‑friendly within North America, with optional office locations in San Francisco, CA; Portland, OR; Boston, MA; or Toronto, ON. Travel is estimated at roughly 20 % of the time. • Shape AI‑first, agentic experiences to evolve tools from feature‑centric to intelligent, proactive systems. • 15+ years of UX/product design experience, with 5+ years leading large, multi‑layered teams or portfolios. • Proven success leading design at scale across complex, multi‑product ecosystems. • Demonstrated ability to drive large‑scale experience unification and modernization initiatives. • Experience building or evolving AI‑assisted or agentic product experiences. • Deep expertise in human‑centered design, research, design systems, and design operations. • Strong executive communication skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels. • Experience working in highly collaborative Agile/Scrum environments. • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in interaction design, HCI, or a related field. • Experience designing professional tools for AEC industries, CAD modeling, or technical enterprise domains. • Experience designing multi‑platform ecosystems (desktop, cloud, services). • Familiarity with Autodesk products or comparable design and engineering software. • Passion for AI‑driven transformation and empowering designers, engineers, and builders.

Benefits
Compensation includes a competitive base salary ranging from $213,000 to $381,150 for U.S. candidates, plus potential annual bonuses, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package covering health, financial, wellness, and time‑off programs.
