About the Role

The Safety Manager role is responsible for developing and executing safety strategic goals and providing budgetary guidance for market areas generating $400 million or less in revenue. The incumbent works closely with corporate and market‑area senior leadership to align safety strategies, oversees DriveCam system management, and leads the Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention program. They also coordinate safety communications, manage incident investigations, and ensure proper documentation in the WM EH&S portal. Additional duties include creating district‑specific safety plans, supervising the Hazardous Energy Control Program, and ensuring compliance with DOT, OSHA and other regulations. The role also monitors facility safety systems, conducts audits, manages safety recognition programs, and oversees employee health and PPE programs. People development is a core component; the manager coaches safety specialists and market‑area leaders, conducts employee observations, and provides feedback to improve safety performance. No supervisory staff are directly managed. • Align safety strategy with corporate and market‑area leadership. • Oversee DriveCam analysis, reporting, coaching, and interventions. • Lead Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) prevention, including risk identification and protection validation. • Coordinate safety communications and awareness messaging across the market area. • Manage incident investigations, data capture, and reporting in the WM EH&S portal. • Develop and maintain district‑specific safety plans based on incident trends. • Direct Hazardous Energy Control Program training and ensure compliance. • Ensure adherence to federal and state DOT/OSHA regulations. • Monitor facility safety systems, review equipment installations, and maintain emergency preparedness plans. • Administer safety recognition programs and evaluate performance metrics. • Manage employee health monitoring and industrial hygiene compliance. • Serve as subject‑matter expert for PPE policies and procurement. • Coach and develop safety specialists and market‑area leaders through observations and feedback. • Provide employee observation training using DriveCam, SIF data, and portal insights.

What You Bring

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree (or a high school diploma with four years of relevant experience) and five to seven years of safety or operations management experience. Preferred certifications are CSP, CIH, PE, QEP, REM and CHMM, along with strong knowledge of DOT/OSHA regulations, communication, leadership and public‑speaking skills.

The position offers a base salary of $78,330‑$114,833, a 15 % AIP bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term disability, 401(k) match, stock purchase plan and paid time off.
