About the Role

The Tank (Erection) Fitter/Tacker erects, fits, welds, grinds, and inspects new steel storage tanks, vessels, and structures, and repairs existing ones. This skilled‑craft role reports to the Superintendent and works closely with erection crews and supervisors in the field. • Unload fabricated steel products and tools from trucks or railcars • Operate electric and pneumatic power tools and perform basic maintenance • Use hand tools such as shovels, brooms, scrapers, brushes and files • Move material manually or with forklift/crane assistance • Align, fit, and tack steel shapes using temporary erection gear and pry bars • Erect and dismantle temporary scaffolding for steel plate construction • Set up, break down, and rig mobile cranes and fixed derricks • Cut or trim plate and structural steel with oxy‑fuel or plasma equipment • Perform SMAW, FCAW, and SAW welding per approved procedures • Inspect, set up, operate, and rig aerial work platforms and staging • Layout and install tank accessories according to drawings • Operate various lifts (man‑lift, scissor, gondola, spider buggy) • Perform structural erection and fit‑up of tank components • Grind weld seams and read construction manuals • Work with compression bars, shell stiffeners, wind girders, and top angles • Interpret engineering drawings • Install roof systems as required • Conduct specialized tank activities (air raise, hydrotest, seal, pneumatic) • Erect and use tank‑builder scaffolding • Read operation manuals and load charts; calculate load weights • Maintain rigging tools in safe condition and perform inspections • Select appropriate rigging gear and perform load calculations • Inspect lifting and safety equipment • Organize work according to instructions • Measure accurately with a standard tape • Apply mathematical concepts to practical tasks • Access elevated platforms and scaffolds safely • Climb structures using fall protection • Work to precise accuracy standards • Compare dimensions and shapes accurately • Follow verbal and written safety instructions • Perform general construction labor and confined‑space work • Use personal protective equipment and maintain housekeeping

What You Bring

Applicants are expected to bring multiple years of experience in tank erection and possess the necessary welding certifications. A comprehensive skill set—including welding, grinding, cutting, structural erection, rigging, load calculations, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and construction manuals—is essential, along with strong communication, mathematical proficiency, and strict adherence to safety protocols. • Pass pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening • Hold a basic carbon‑steel SMAW welding qualification (Four‑Plate Test) • Possess at least five years of relevant experience • Certified in tacking weld processes • Skilled in grinding, oxy/fuel burning, basic fitting, and arc gouging • Layout and fit tank bottom, lapped plate, fittings, and shell plates • Erect and fit sphere shell plates • Use crane hand signals and rigging tools correctly • Communicate verbally with supervisors and teammates • Adapt to varied duties and learn basic drawing interpretation • Pass required safety examinations
