About the Role
The role includes conducting observation, testing, and sampling of soils, aggregates, and concrete on project sites, performing routine field and laboratory tests according to industry standards, and handling data calculations and reductions. Additional duties involve assisting with drafting and administrative tasks, maintaining daily communication with contractors and project managers, reporting site conditions, attending meetings, and managing field equipment. ECS supports career development by encouraging participation in internal and external training programs and certifications such as OSHA 10, ACI, ASNT, AWS, ICC, NICET, NRCA, RCI, and various State DOT courses as experience grows. • Conduct field observation, testing, and sampling of soils, aggregates, and concrete. • Perform routine laboratory and on‑site tests following industry standards. • Calculate and reduce data from samples and test results; assist with drafting and administrative tasks. • Communicate daily with contractors, technicians, and project managers; report site conditions and equipment issues. • Attend project meetings and help organize field equipment. • Participate in training on ECS methodology and accurately document findings.

What You Bring

ECS Limited is seeking a Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Field Technician to join its Christiansburg, VA team and grow in a dynamic work environment, working under the guidance of experienced professionals. Candidates need a high school diploma or GED, must be able to lift at least 85 pounds, and must have a valid driver’s license and insurance. They should be willing to learn heavy‑construction safety practices, CMT principles, ASTM laboratory standards, and obtain relevant certifications, with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well with contractors, peers, and supervisors. • Pursue certifications such as OSHA 10, ACI, ASNT, AWS, ICC, NICET, NRCA, RCI, and State DOT programs. • Lift at least 85 lb and maintain a valid driver’s license with insurance. • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication and teamwork abilities.
