About the Role
The role is an entry‑level IT Risk and Controls consultant within Guidehouse’s Defense & Security Financial Management practice. Consultants help federal defense clients optimize financial management by transforming processes, improving transparency, and ensuring compliance with federal laws and regulations. The position provides opportunities to develop consulting skills and gain exposure to government finance. Daily responsibilities include performing rigorous IT control assessments in line with OMB Circular A‑123, conducting walkthrough interviews with system and database administrators, and reviewing artifacts such as security plans, SOPs, and system configurations. Consultants evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of controls, document test results in a repeatable manner, and communicate findings to senior client stakeholders. They also collaborate with client personnel to identify root causes of control weaknesses and develop detailed remediation plans, while providing subject‑matter expertise on ad‑hoc control inquiries. In addition to client‑facing work, the role supports Guidehouse’s growth through business development activities, proposal and white‑paper creation, and participation in internal account meetings. What You Bring
Candidates must be U.S. citizens eligible for a Secret (or higher) clearance, be able to obtain a Public Trust, and be completing a bachelor’s degree between fall 2025 and summer 2026. Required skills include strong organization, written and verbal communication, quick synthesis of information, analytical problem‑solving, teamwork, and an interest in federal or defense consulting. Project‑management best practices and the ability to deliver high‑quality work in a fast‑paced environment are also essential. Preferred qualifications include an active Secret clearance, a degree specializing in information systems, computer science, accounting or related fields, and CISA certification. Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, FISMA, FISCAM), familiarity with Windows or UNIX, databases such as Oracle/SQL, and experience with vulnerability‑management tools are advantageous. Understanding of project‑management phases and a detail‑oriented, solution‑focused mindset further strengthens a candidate’s profile. • Obtain and maintain a Secret (or higher) federal security clearance; U.S. citizenship required. • Complete a bachelor’s degree between Fall 2025 and Summer 2026 in a related field. • Demonstrate strong organizational, oral and written communication, and teamwork abilities. • Nice‑to‑have: active Secret clearance, CISA certification, knowledge of NIST/FISMA/FISCAM, experience with Windows/UNIX, Oracle/SQL, vulnerability tools, and project‑management principles.
