About the Role

The Inspector will oversee the administration of transportation engineering projects, leading lower‑level inspection staff, coordinating with contractors, scheduling inspections, and reviewing daily reports. He/she will also support business development by meeting with clients, preparing proposals, and reviewing plans and specifications. Weekend, night, and overnight travel within the state are required. • Lead and mentor lower‑level inspection staff on transportation projects. • Coordinate inspection activities with contractors and schedule field staff. • Review and maintain daily inspection reports and documentation of events, issues, and variances. • Perform daily field inspections, including punch‑list verification, testing, and commissioning. • Ensure compliance with quality, performance, specifications, and code requirements. • Conduct basic computations and review calculations performed by other inspectors. • Provide on‑the‑job training to new employees. • Participate in client meetings, prepare proposals, and review plans/specifications to generate new work. • Work weekends, nights, and undertake overnight travel within Ohio as needed.

What You Bring

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of related experience, along with a valid driver’s license. Preferred candidates have 15+ years of ODOT or other state DOT construction inspection experience, ODOT certification, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to document events, perform basic calculations, and provide on‑the‑job training to new employees. • Hold a valid driver’s license and required ODOT certification. • Possess 15+ years of state DOT or local agency construction inspection experience (preferred).
