About the Role
The role involves working outdoors and driving, requiring physical effort such as handling containers, exposure to dirt, odors, noise, and weather, and occasional use of finger‑dexterity tasks like operating equipment and completing paperwork. • Operate refuse/recycling trucks safely following WM Safety, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable laws. • Perform pre‑ and post‑trip vehicle inspections and complete DVIR reports. • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, accidents, or service interruptions to Operations Manager or Dispatch. • Attend all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings. • Collaborate with Operations Manager to improve route efficiency and identify best practices. • Load and empty residential or commercial containers manually or with hoisting equipment. • Assist the driver with backing maneuvers and other on‑route tasks. • Communicate customer requests to Dispatch or Operations Manager. • Complete end‑of‑day documentation and vehicle check‑out procedures.

What You Bring
As a Driver Apprentice, you will partner with an experienced WM driver or trainer after obtaining a Commercial Driving Permit, completing all required training to safely operate a commercial refuse or recycling vehicle until you meet all qualifications. • Minimum age 18 and eligible to work in the United States. • Hold a current state‑issued standard driver’s license. • Obtain a Commercial Driving Permit and pass a pre‑employment drug screen. • Ability to meet physical demands with or without reasonable accommodations. • No education or prior experience required.
