About the Role

The lead will develop and execute a strategic plan to expand WSP's traffic design practice, driving business development and cultivating both new and existing client relationships. This effort will build a robust pipeline of opportunities to position WSP for successful project wins. Responsibility includes overseeing end‑to‑end delivery of traffic design projects—such as signals, signing, striping, traffic control, MOT, ITS, and modeling—while ensuring scope, risk mitigation, quality standards, budgets, schedules, and performance metrics are met. Coordination will be required with clients, DOTs, sub‑consultants, contractors, and vendors. • Develop and execute a strategic plan to grow WSP's traffic design practice in the region. • Lead business development and nurture new and existing client relationships. • Build a robust pipeline of traffic design opportunities and pursue wins. • Manage complex traffic design projects (signals, signing, ITS, modeling) from initiation through operations and maintenance. • Ensure project scope, risk mitigation, quality standards, and performance metrics are met. • Lead multidisciplinary teams, sub‑consultants, contractors, and vendors, fostering trust and accountability. • Negotiate contracts, monitor vendor performance, and coordinate with internal and external partners, including DOTs. • Present technical information to executives, client teams, and public audiences. • Develop technical proposals, scopes of work, and budgets for projected work. • Mentor and develop staff technical skills.

What You Bring

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in civil or traffic engineering, possess 15+ years of relevant experience, and be a licensed Professional Engineer in New York (or obtain reciprocity within six months). Required expertise includes project management, design software (AutoCAD, MicroStation), leadership, communication, and adherence to safety and company policies; preferred applicants have recognized technical excellence and additional state PE licenses. • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Traffic Engineering. • 15+ years of post‑degree traffic design experience. • Licensed Professional Engineer in New York (or obtain reciprocity within six months). • Proven experience managing large, complex projects with budgets and schedules. • Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and related design software. • Strong leadership, team motivation, and client networking abilities. • Excellent written, oral, and presentation communication skills. • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment handling multiple deadlines. • Experience on projects in NY, NJ, and the Northeast. • Preferred: recognized technical thought leader in traffic design and innovative transportation technologies. • Preferred: active involvement in industry organizations. • Preferred: PE licenses in NJ or CT.
