About the Role
The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for repairing and maintaining heavy, compact, and light service equipment as well as light trucks. Work includes preventative maintenance inspections and repairs to hydraulic, fuel, exhaust, brake, suspension, electrical, HVAC, and emission systems. The role requires reading and interpreting equipment condition reports or repair orders, communicating with supervisors or operators for clarification, and completing paperwork that documents parts usage and labor times. Daily consumables reports are generated to record hours, fuel, and oil usage, and data from oil sampling, on‑board computers, and fleet management software are analyzed. • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, HVAC, and emission systems on heavy and light equipment. • Perform preventive maintenance, overhauls, and repairs on engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, and body components. • Interpret equipment condition reports, communicate with supervisors/operators, and document work orders and parts usage. • Generate daily consumables reports and analyze oil samples and fleet management data. • Follow OSHA HazCom, Lockout/Tagout, and fire‑protection safety procedures.

What You Bring
Technicians must maintain advanced knowledge to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs on equipment such as compactors, excavators, wheel loaders, and other vehicles. Typical tasks involve work on engines, transmissions, chassis, drivelines, body components, hydraulics, brakes, electrical and suspension systems, as well as wheels, tires, and undercarriages. Candidates must hold ASE certifications demonstrating advanced knowledge of air brakes, hydraulics, electrical systems, drivetrains, suspension, and wheel‑end components, along with at least one year of heavy‑equipment service experience. Additional qualifications include a mechanical trade school certificate or degree, electrical diagnostics certification, familiarity with Tier 4 emission systems, and welding or fabrication skills. Compliance with OSHA HazCom, Lockout/Tagout, and fire‑protection regulations is mandatory.
