About the Role
• Lead, coach and develop the estimating team to deliver accurate, timely and competitive tender pricing. • Drive estimating excellence through robust processes, continuous improvement, and the development of estimating tools. • Oversee bid preparation including methodology reviews, risk and commercial assessments, and tender governance. • Work closely with internal teams to support project pricing, variations, budget development and handover. • Build strong relationships with clients, suppliers and partners while contributing to market insights and bid strategy.

What You Bring
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Estimator to join our Water NZ business, reporting to the General Manager – Water NZ and based in our Christchurch office. As a senior leader within our Utilities Projects team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping successful bid outcomes, strengthening our estimating capability, and ensuring we remain the contractor of choice for water infrastructure projects across the region. You will lead a dedicated estimating team, collaborate with operational, engineering, and business development stakeholders, and ensure price proposals are accurate, competitive, and aligned to Downer’s high standards. • Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Engineering or related field and at least 3 years’ experience in an estimating environment. • Proven experience leading estimating teams and delivering successful tender outcomes. • Strong analytical, commercial and risk assessment capabilities. • Ability to devise smart, cost‑effective solutions and foster cross‑functional collaboration. • Exceptional communication and people‑leadership skills with a commitment to Zero Harm.
