About the Role

The Principal Pipeline Engineer is responsible for managing medium to large, complex pipeline projects, exercising technical authority, and overseeing a team of engineers and designers. This role involves leading project scheduling, ensuring compliance with regulations and Gulf procedures, and serving as the primary interface among engineering teams, management, and clients. Within the highly specialized Pipeline Engineering department, the team delivers design-engineering services such as equipment and piping system design, detailed calculations, feasibility studies, site layout planning, and the preparation of standards, specifications, and construction drawings. • Function as the Lead Pipeline Engineer on smaller to mid-size projects. • Responsible for oversight of pipeline related engineering work products (calculations, design, specifications, etc.). • Provide technical leadership to lower-level engineers. • Prepare engineering training materials. • Serve as interface between engineering teams, management and clients. • Ensure all engineering work complies with applicable regulations, codes, and Gulf procedures. • Independently prepare or review discipline project specifications. • Review discipline scope of work to confirm alignment with project specifications or proposal documents. • Conduct quality control checks on pipeline engineering documents. • Perform routing, right‑of‑way and workspace selection, construction technique studies, and economic feasibility analyses; coordinate with field and third‑party personnel. • Design pipeline equipment and piping systems to optimize performance, reliability, maintainability, flexibility, and cost. • Perform calculations such as wall thickness, API 1102 crossing, HDD design, roping, wheel load, hydrotest, buoyancy, reinforcement, maximum allowable span, and field bending. • Develop studies and plans including hydrotest plans, class location studies, HCA studies, stress analysis, and HDD design. • Create site layouts, plot plans, access roads, and storage yards, determining locations for major equipment like launchers, receivers, and MLVs. • Execute typical tasks such as routing, ROW selection, workspace selection, FERC filing, class location study, MLV spacing and design, launcher/receiver design, material requisitions, water source selection, alignment sheet review, flood map analysis, crossing design, hazard area mitigation, and permit acquisition. • Prepare technical content for standards and specifications, including line, launcher/receiver barrel, 3R ell, high‑yield fittings, internal coating, and external coating specifications. • Approve construction drawings and schedules such as alignment sheets, launcher/receiver drawings, road and railroad permit drawings, wetland and waterbody permit drawings, plats, hydrotest plan drawings, and HDD design drawings.

What You Bring

Candidates should have at least eight years of pipeline engineering or related experience, be familiar with relevant codes and regulations, possess strong computer and communication skills, hold a BS in Engineering, and preferably be PE‑certified. The position demands a results‑oriented, customer‑focused mindset with an emphasis on accuracy and quality, and it is performed in a typical office environment with occasional light physical effort. • Good understanding of oil and gas pipeline design practices, project planning and cost control requirements and procurement procedures. • Experience with performing detailed design of gas or liquids pipelines; both is preferred. • Familiar with permitting requirements for pipeline design and construction. • Typically 8+ years of experience in pipeline engineering, operations, or construction. • Familiar with all relevant codes and regulations. • Knowledge of computer systems in an engineering environment. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • BS in Engineering. • PE certification preferred. • Frequent sitting and operating a computer. • Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or office materials. • Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
