About the Role
The Director of PR & Communications will lead and strengthen the firm’s voice, both internally and externally, for an organization of over 3,500 employees. Reporting to the Senior Marketing Director and working closely with the Chief Marketing Officer and executive leadership, this senior role shapes firmwide narratives, advises leadership, and scales communications strategies to support growth, geographic expansion, and organizational change. The position brings clarity, consistency, and confidence to communications across disciplines, regions, and markets as the firm grows organically and through acquisition. • Define and direct an integrated PR and communications strategy that strengthens brand reputation and supports business objectives across markets, disciplines, and regions. • Partner with executive and senior leadership to shape leadership communications, thought leadership, firmwide messaging, and change management. • Provide strategic direction for leveraging digital platforms and emerging channels, aligning messaging with broader campaigns and audience insights. • Develop storytelling frameworks and messaging standards to translate complex technical expertise into clear, compelling narratives. • Set strategy and standards for firmwide internal communications to build alignment, trust, and engagement. • Establish media strategy, prioritize outreach, and cultivate senior-level media relationships to elevate firm visibility. • Lead communication strategy during sensitive or high‑visibility situations, ensuring timely and credible messaging. • Build and develop a distributed PR and communications team, creating structure, workflows, and a coaching culture for high‑quality output. • Collaborate with marketing, business development, events, and corporate services to align messaging with business goals. • Maintain media and messaging toolkits, executive bios, boilerplates, and corporate narratives.

The Director builds strong relationships with technical leaders and divisional teams to develop a deep understanding of services, business priorities, and technical expertise. This insight is translated into clear, compelling narratives that enhance brand recognition, reinforce business alignment, and support long‑term growth. A passion for design and the built environment, combined with senior‑level storytelling skills, is essential for articulating what differentiates the firm to clients and communities. The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications or a related field and brings 15+ years of experience in public relations, corporate or marketing communications, ideally within AEC or professional services. They have a proven track record of leading distributed teams, delivering measurable PR results, and distilling complex technical information into clear, audience‑appropriate messaging. Strong organizational, time‑management, writing, and strategic thinking skills, along with a media‑savvy mindset, are required.

The role partners closely with the Digital Marketing team to incorporate data‑driven insights, explore emerging communication channels, and expand the firm’s reach and influence through multimedia storytelling. While a presence at an East Coast office is preferred, the position offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement. The position offers a salary range of $125,000 to $155,000 per year, depending on qualifications, and includes a comprehensive benefits package such as medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401(k) matching, paid parental and military leave, and a straight‑time policy for billable hours beyond 40 per week.
