About the Role
The position involves leading the preparation of structural deliverables, delivering coordinated design assignments on time and budget, performing field investigations, and handling construction administration tasks such as shop‑drawing review and site inspections. The engineer will collaborate across disciplines, maintain project documentation, make independent code‑based technical decisions, assist in developing standards, conduct QA/QC reviews, and mentor less‑experienced engineers while leading a team of engineers and BIM technicians. • Lead preparation of structural deliverables, including presentations, calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and cost estimates. • Deliver coordinated design assignments that meet schedule, budget, and client contract requirements. • Conduct field investigations to integrate existing conditions into construction documents. • Perform construction administration tasks such as shop‑drawing review, RFI response, site inspections, and client communications. • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and maintain organized project documentation. • Make independent technical decisions based on building codes, company, client, and industry standards. • Develop and update departmental standards, staying current with code and practice changes. • Conduct QA/QC reviews of design calculations and drawings produced by peers. • Lead a group of engineers and BIM technicians on structural and multi‑discipline projects. • Mentor junior engineers and support their career development. • Serve as senior technical resource and advisor for the team’s specialty area. • Contribute specialized technical input to studies and design procedures. • Participate in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables. • Prepare technical specification sections and provide input to engineering budgets and schedules. • Estimate construction costs and technical effort for projects.

What You Bring
We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer for our Virginia Beach, VA office within the Building Engineering practice. The role offers the chance to work on challenging, meaningful projects in an environment that values innovation, technical quality, and client service. Minimum qualifications include a BA/BS in civil engineering with six years of experience, a valid Professional Engineer license, Revit proficiency, and experience in antiterrorism/force‑protection and blast‑resistant design; U.S. citizenship is required. Preferred qualifications add eight or more years of design experience for commercial and institutional facilities, strong code interpretation skills, advanced computer and communication abilities, and a master’s degree in structural or civil engineering. • BA/BS in civil engineering with at least six years of relevant experience. • Valid Professional Engineer (PE) license. • Proficiency in Revit and antiterrorism/force‑protection and blast‑resistant structural design. • U.S. citizenship required. • Eight or more years designing structural systems for commercial and institutional facilities (preferred). • Strong ability to interpret and apply national and local building codes. • Advanced computer skills for calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing. • Excellent written communication, presentation, and client interaction abilities. • Demonstrated capability to work independently with limited supervision while developing standards. • Master’s degree in structural or civil engineering with a structural emphasis (preferred).
