About the Role
The Field Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, adjusting, repairing, or overhauling mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment such as cranes, bulldozers, graders, and conveyors used in construction and surface mining. The role requires a working knowledge of DC electrical systems, personal tools, and strict adherence to safety hazards, with work performed in plant operations or construction jobsite settings. Core duties include routine maintenance, inspection, and repair of heavy equipment, interpreting technical documentation, testing repaired equipment for performance and compliance, and supporting other craft workers as needed. • Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles • Operate and inspect machines/heavy equipment to diagnose defects • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts • Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment • Read and interpret operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear • Test equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance • Assist other craft workers as needed • Perform repetitive hand/arm and leg motions; maintain hand‑eye coordination • Use hand and power tools (electric, gas, pneumatic) of all types • Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds • Walk on uneven, muddy, rocky, or sandy surfaces; work in confined spaces • Operate in adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) • Drive cars, trucks, forklifts, and other equipment as needed • Make decisions and exercise sound judgment

Candidates must meet demanding physical requirements—lifting up to 50 lb (occasionally 100 lb), climbing ladders, and working in adverse weather and uneven terrain—as well as mental abilities such as effective communication, basic math, decision‑making, and attention to detail. They must also be capable of operating hand and power tools, driving trucks and forklifts, and working in confined spaces when required. • Lift, push, or pull up to 50 lb (occasionally up to 100 lb) • Communicate effectively with management and supervision • Write, perform calculations, and complete basic math tasks • Concentrate amid distractions and work at various tempos • Pay attention to detail and observe specifics
