About the Role

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the Utilityworker II is responsible for safe and efficient execution of general utility duties, including scaffolding erection and dismantling, non‑asbestos pipe‑insulation removal and installation, heavy labour, routine maintenance, and operation of equipment such as snowplows and mobile sweepers. Additional tasks include cleaning plant equipment, preventive and corrective maintenance, environmental and vegetative control, and supporting other utility workers across the province.

What You Bring

The role requires participation in mandatory training such as in‑house safety, environmental awareness, SAIA scaffold certification, and vehicle operation. Employees must uphold personal and co‑worker safety by complying with all Occupational Health and Safety regulations, demonstrate proactive risk‑assessment behavior, and adhere to the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy, including a confidential pre‑employment test. Candidates need a Grade XII education or equivalent, strong reading and writing skills, and the ability to perform heavy labour using hand and power tools. A valid Nova Scotia driver’s licence with at least two years’ experience, familiarity with recycling standards, and experience or certification in scaffolding or pipe‑insulation are assets. Self‑motivation, teamwork, and minimal supervision are essential. Physical demands include lifting 17–66 lb from waist to overhead, carrying 25–66 lb, using both grip strengths, pushing/pulling 20–50 lb, frequent walking, and occasional crouching, kneeling, and confined‑space work. The role also requires color discrimination, tolerance of warm temperatures, and the ability to work in various postures.
