About the Role
Responsibilities include implementing and administering site safety programs, conducting orientations and training, documenting violations, performing audits, analyzing data, assisting with incident analysis, and managing OSHA reporting. The engineer also reviews submittals, monitors work plans, handles injury management, organizes safety events, participates in project planning and hazard analysis, provides safety information, evaluates industrial hygiene concerns, serves as a safety resource, attends and chairs meetings, collaborates with client safety personnel, unions, insurers, and ensures PPE and equipment maintenance while managing the safety budget. • Implement and administer site safety programs, including orientations, training, and hazard analysis. • Document safety violations, conduct audits, analyze data, and assist with major incident investigations and OSHA reporting. • Review safety submittals, monitor trade partner work plans, manage onsite injury cases, and organize safety celebrations. • Provide safety information, evaluate industrial hygiene concerns, serve as a safety resource, and chair safety meetings. • Collaborate with client safety personnel, union representatives, insurance risk engineers, and ensure maintenance of safety equipment and PPE while managing the safety budget.

What You Bring
Mortenson is seeking a Safety Engineer (levels I and II) to implement its Zero Injury Safety program at construction sites, primarily in the Midwest. The role supports a safe environment for employees, subcontractors, and visitors, and involves travel up to 100% of the time. Visa sponsorship is not available and candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. Minimum qualifications require a bachelor’s or associate’s degree in occupational safety or a related field, or a high school diploma with CHST or STS certification, OSHA 30‑hour training, and five years of construction experience. Additional requirements include a valid driver’s license, detail‑orientation, proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety software, strong communication, teamwork, problem‑solving, leadership, and public‑speaking skills. Safety Engineer II candidates need at least one year of related experience; Safety Engineer I follows the same base qualifications. • Hold a bachelor’s or associate’s degree in occupational safety/health or a high school diploma with CHST/STS certification, OSHA 30‑hour training, and at least five years of construction experience (or one year for Engineer II). • Possess a valid driver’s license, proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety software, strong communication, teamwork, problem‑solving, leadership, and public‑speaking skills.

Benefits
Compensation ranges from $78,800‑$98,500 for level I and $81,800‑$110,400 for level II, with higher rates for certain locations. The position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
