About the Role
Within HDR’s Transportation Business Group, engineers collaborate across planning, architecture, construction management, environmental, communications, economics, and consulting disciplines to design resilient highways, iconic bridges, transit systems, rail, aviation, ports, and marine infrastructure. Their work supports economic vitality, public safety, sustainable communities, and overall quality of life. As a Transportation (Highway/Roadway) Engineer, you will work under a Project Manager on urban and rural highway projects, oversee CAD designers, produce detailed designs, and engage in activities from feasibility analysis through construction. You will also assume some project‑management responsibilities and interact directly with clients, contributing to the delivery of innovative mobility solutions. • Serve in a technical role under the direction of a Project Manager on the engineering development of urban and rural highway/roadway projects • Oversee the work of CAD Designers, and possibly other EITs • Prepare detailed engineering designs for roadway and highway projects • Participate in activities ranging from site feasibility analysis to final design and through the construction phase • Assume some project management duties and interact with clients as needed

What You Bring
The role requires a bachelor’s degree, a professional engineering license (PE or P.Eng), and hands‑on experience with highway and road CAD tools such as Bentley ConceptStation, OpenRoads Designer, Autodesk InfraWorks, or Civil 3D. Strong communication, organizational skills, and proficiency in MS Office are essential, along with a background in all aspects of roadway engineering design. • Minimum of 3 years experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design • Bachelor's degree • Previous experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the position location (e.g., PE or P.Eng) • Hands‑on experience with highways and roads CAD software such as Bentley ConceptStation, OpenRoads Designer, Autodesk InfraWorks, or Civil 3D • Proficiency with Microsoft Office • Excellent communication and organizational skills • Experience with urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, concept alignments, geometrical layout, and CAD base alignment plans
