About the Role
• Manage the design process and collaborate with owners to define expectations. • Facilitate solicitation, selection, and contracting of designers for design‑build projects. • Develop and present project proposals. • Create detailed design‑phase and baseline construction schedules. • Conduct construction planning, including subcontractor selection and site utilization. • Lead the design team to incorporate constructability, logistics, and customer expectations. • Guide the estimating team on technical design aspects and cost documentation. • Manage design‑phase costs, including estimates, value engineering, and budgeting. • Ensure regulatory approvals and risk‑management requirements are met. • Implement LEED tracking and analysis. • Oversee and mentor design‑phase team members, providing resources and support. • Conduct performance evaluations and participate in hiring decisions. • Model exceptional customer relations and gather feedback during the design process. • Manage site work and logistics efficiently, suggesting improvements.

What You Bring
Mortenson is seeking an experienced Design Phase Manager I who can interact with staff at all levels, remain flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient in a dynamic environment. The individual will translate the owner’s vision into design solutions and construction parameters, while demonstrating excellent communication skills and attention to detail. The role may involve managing two projects simultaneously or one larger project. • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, or a related field. • Minimum six years of relevant experience. • Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem‑solving, and leadership abilities. • Detail‑oriented with ability to manage multiple project tasks. • Basic understanding of construction law and standard business practices. • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, project software, and relevant web applications. • Positive, professional attitude with strong customer service skills. • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies. • Willingness to travel up to 100%.

Benefits
The base pay range for this role is $110,700 to $166,100, with higher ranges for certain office locations such as Denver, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, and Washington, D.C. Base salary is positioned within the range based on knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity, and the position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
