About the Role
The Material Handler–Forklift Operator will provide manufacturing support in the shipping area, handling tasks such as material allocation, planning, scheduling, verification, receiving, and shipping in either the front or back storeroom. Responsibilities include operating forklifts and cranes, receiving and documenting materials, supporting assembly and fabrication needs, packaging and labeling items for shipment, and performing routine preventive maintenance on equipment while complying with safety and industrial‑hygiene standards. • Perform computer‑based cycle counts, analyze root causes, and execute corrective actions. • Operate forklifts and cranes to transport and position equipment and materials as needed. • Receive, document, store, stage, and issue job‑related materials to fulfill production schedules. • Support assembly and fabrication material requirements on demand. • Package, crate, and band equipment, parts, and products to minimize damage during shipment. • Apply labels, stickers, and stencils for identification and efficient storage or shipping. • Adhere to safety and industrial hygiene protocols, using personal protective equipment and safe equipment operation. • Conduct routine preventive maintenance to ensure optimal performance of manufacturing equipment. • Utilize computer applications (Excel, Word, DMM, AS400, Mapics, Vista, Outlook) for inventory and tracking tasks. • Maintain a clean, organized work area following 5S standards.

What You Bring
Basic qualifications include forklift or crane operation experience, a broad understanding of materials planning and tracking, a high school diploma or GED, residence within 50 miles of Sumter, and permanent US work authorization. Preferred qualifications are computer literacy, knowledge of Lean concepts, familiarity with steel and bus fabrication processes, and proficiency with Excel, Word, DMM, AS400, Mapics, Vista, and Outlook. The position requires regular standing, walking, lifting up to 35 lb, and frequent use of hands, vision, and communication. Candidates must be able to multitask, work independently or in teams, interact professionally with internal and external suppliers, maintain strong organizational and quality‑focused practices, and keep the work area clean according to 5S standards.

Benefits
Eaton’s ES AMER ARS division is hiring a Material Handler for its Sumter, SC facility. The role works Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., paying an hourly rate of $17.00 plus eligibility for a variable incentive program. Compensation is based on the candidate’s skills, experience, qualifications, market and business considerations, and no relocation assistance is provided.
