About the Role

• Implement and manage site safety programs, develop site‑specific plans, and conduct safety orientation and training. • Document and track safety violations, perform work‑area safety audits, and analyze leading and trailing indicator data. • Record, monitor, and analyze safety, injury, and hazard statistics; coordinate OSHA reporting and review safety submittals. • Review trade partner work plans for safety concerns, assist with onsite injury management, and manage Return‑to‑Work assignments. • Organize safety celebrations, provide safety resources, and assess industrial hygiene concerns. • Maintain knowledge of construction safety standards, serve as a safety resource, and ensure proper maintenance of equipment and PPE. • Liaise with client safety personnel, union representatives, and insurance risk engineers; accompany safety personnel on site tours. • Manage safety budget, attend or chair safety meetings, and perform additional assigned duties.

What You Bring

Mortenson is seeking a Safety Engineer I to implement its Zero Injury Safety program on construction sites. The role involves ensuring a safe work environment for team members, subcontractors, and visitors while interacting professionally with staff at all levels. Confidentiality, flexibility, and proactive problem‑solving are essential. • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in occupational safety/health preferred, or high school diploma with CHST/STS certification, OSHA 30‑hour training, and at least five years of construction experience. • Experience administering safety programs, conducting hazard analyses, developing controls, and contributing to safe work plans. • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 100 % of the time. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety‑related software applications. • Strong attention to detail, teamwork, communication, problem‑solving, leadership, and public‑speaking abilities. • Positive, professional attitude with strong customer‑service orientation. • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies to internal and external stakeholders.

Benefits

The position offers a base salary ranging from $78,800 to $98,500, with higher ranges for certain locations, and includes eligibility for Mortenson’s incentive plan. Travel requirements may reach 100 % of the time, and a valid driver’s license is required. The role does not provide visa sponsorship.
