About the Role
The Engineer III will collaborate with cross‑functional engineering and design teams to coordinate design packages, evaluate and apply engineering techniques, and interface with customers and project stakeholders. Additional duties include data analysis for substations up to 500 kV, supporting proposals, procurement, construction, and mentoring junior staff while ensuring quality control and compliance with design drawings. • Coordinate overall design package and requirements with engineering and design team members • Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, providing interpretations and conclusions • Interface and present to multiple stakeholders, including customer decision‑makers and project teams • Perform data analysis and basic engineering calculations for substations up to 500 kV • Review and approve equipment vendor drawings and test reports • Provide engineering support for proposals, estimating, procurement, and construction • Mentor, coach, and develop junior team members • Assist engineers at all levels in completing large, complex projects • Develop study methodologies aligned with customer requirements and Mortenson best practices • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and Design Phase Managers to deliver projects • Verify construction aligns with electrical engineering design drawings • Implement the QA/QC process • Develop and evaluate technical requirements for procurement and construction packages • Assist field personnel in resolving unanticipated site conditions • Apply electrical power engineering theories and principles • Research engineering issues, evaluate alternatives, and present recommendations

Mortenson is seeking an experienced Engineer III – Power Studies and Design to lead detailed engineering designs for high‑voltage substation, collection, and transmission projects supporting utility‑scale generation such as wind, solar, and storage. The position focuses on power studies, including short‑circuit, reactive power, losses (using PSSE) and arc‑flash analysis (using ETAP). Roles are available in Minneapolis, MN; Fargo, ND; San Antonio, TX; and Denver, CO. • Exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills • Preferred Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering (or related program) • Degree from an ABET‑accredited engineering curriculum • Professional Engineering (PE) certification • Ability to travel up to 10 % of the time
