About the Role

In the People domain, you will lead the fire engineering team, manage Defence workload, set SMART goals, conduct staff appraisals, and mentor staff toward chartership. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and national leadership to ensure high‑quality project delivery. For Projects, you will provide budget and schedule estimates, lead the delivery of mid‑to‑large Defence projects nationally and internationally, and act as an AECOM Approved Lead Verifier and Project Manager. You will maintain technical client relationships and help attract new work. In the Business area you will enforce AECOM health and safety policies, nurture client relationships, promote the fire engineering business, and contribute to marketing strategy and the Fire Team Business Plan. Supporting national KPIs and driving growth are key responsibilities. • Lead and manage the fire engineering team, setting SMART goals and conducting performance appraisals. • Oversee delivery of large, complex Defence projects, ensuring regulatory compliance and client satisfaction. • Provide budget and schedule estimates and act as an Approved Lead Verifier and Project Manager on mid‑to‑large projects. • Maintain and grow technical client relationships to attract new work for the fire engineering business. • Enforce AECOM health and safety policies on site and during off‑site activities. • Promote the fire engineering practice, support national KPIs, and contribute to the Fire Team Business Plan.

What You Bring

AECOM is seeking an Associate Director (Fire Engineer) with Defence experience for a UK‑based consultancy role. The candidate must have demonstrable experience across sectors and technical fire engineering applications, with a focus on Defence work. This senior position involves overseeing and developing a team of fire engineers and managing complex projects. Required qualifications include extensive experience in a large multidisciplinary environment, thorough knowledge of UK fire standards (ADB, BS 9991‑9999, HTM 05‑02, BB100) and Defence standards (JSP 80, DIFS), proficiency with fire engineering tools such as FDS, SFE, and evacuation modelling software, and membership in professional institutions (MIFireE) or NFPA certifications (CFPE). Candidates should hold a BEng/MEng or MSc in fire engineering; Chartered Engineer status, UK nationality, security clearance, and a PhD are preferred. • Demonstrate extensive experience in multidisciplinary environments and deep knowledge of UK and Defence fire standards. • Proficient with fire engineering tools such as FDS, SFE, and evacuation modelling software. • Hold relevant professional memberships or certifications (MIFireE, CFPE) and a BEng/MEng or MSc in fire engineering; Chartered Engineer and security clearance preferred.
